Amazon Created Fake Anti-Union Twitter Accounts Because Of Course It Did
UNITED STATES — Fake accounts claiming to be Amazon employees have been praising the company’s working conditions on Twitter. “Amazon takes great care of me,” one user under the handle @AmazonFCDarla tweeted, “What bothers me most about unions is there’s no ability to opt-out of dues.” Twitter revealed that the account was fake, and Alabama lawmakers sited a law that prevents the union issue raised by the fake account. Most accounts posting similar messages were made only a couple of days ago, often with only a few tweets, all related to Amazon. The fake accounts primarily used the handle ‘@AmazonFC’ followed by a first name. Amazon previously used this handle for its so-called Amazon ambassadors who are paid by the firm to promote and defend it on Twitter. The commerce giant has admitted to creating fake accounts in a move that shows how little the company cares about its image as a mascot for the horrors of late-stage capitalism. “Yeah, they’re fake, so what?” a spokesperson for Amazon told the national press, “You’re still going to shop at Whole Foods so go fuck yourself.” Votes are currently being counted in Alabama to decide whether Amazon warehouse workers will form a union. The issue of whether Amazon employees should be allowed to use the bathroom during work is scheduled to be voted on next month.
