Cashier Admits Jealousy Over Customer’s Cool Face Mask
CHICAGO, IL — Jeff Thompson, 32, thought he was participating in another routine encounter with the cashier at his local grocery store, until the cashier Marcus Banks, 33, unveiled feelings about Thompson’s face mask that were bubbling deep within his heart. “He said he liked my face mask,” Thompson told his girlfriend in their car after the encounter, “and I just said thanks and started to pay with my card. Then he told me he was jealous of my face mask in a weird tone, and we stood in awkward silence until I finished paying.” The face mask in question is one that Thompson purchased from a friend who has been crafting them for people since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. It has nylon strings for a comfortable fit that can stretch to accommodate most face sizes. The mouth covering portion of the mask has images of tomatoes printed on it, which Thompson found to be kind of fun, causing him to purchase it. “It’s just a mask with tomatoes on it,” Thompson told his girlfriend, “Like, you can get that anywhere. When he said he was jealous of it, it really took me off guard.” The couple have stated that this encounter will not deter them from shopping at the grocery store where it occurred, but they will probably avoid that cashier to stop similar encounters from happening in the future.
