Daft Punk Breaks Up Because “Everyone Wears Masks Now”
MUSIC — Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, 47, and Thomas Bangalter, 46, announced to millions of heartbroken fans that they will no longer be performing as the electronic music duo Daft Punk. “One day, we just kind of looked around and realized everyone was wearing masks, so what’s the point?” Bangalter wrote on his personal Twitter page. The six-time Grammy award winning French performers, filmmakers and music producers are widely credited with influencing today’s pop and electronic music. They are known for wearing helmets that cover their faces and hide their identities to create the image of a robotic band that is larger than life. The break-up became official on Monday after Daft Punk wrote on their Twitter page, “Everyone wears masks now. Sorry, bye✌️” accompanied by a photo Rush Limbaugh. Fans are confused why they chose to post a photo of Rush Limbaugh, having never expressed feelings for or against the recently deceased republican radio personality. Daft Punk fans quickly posted hundreds of thousands of their favorite tracks and moments of the band’s 28-year career. Maria Potts, 31, wrote on her Twitter page, “Why did they post a photo of Rush Limbaugh?” and Brian Martinez, 30, wrote in a Facebook status, “Are they MAGA?” Daft Punk is expected to most likely reunite and release an album within the next five to seven years.
