CHICAGO, IL — Franklin Maron, 25, invited two of his old college friends to his home in the Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago on Wednesday night, and soon realized something very unsettling about the perception people have of him. “The first thing one of them asked when he saw my guitar was if it was for decoration,” Maron told us in a phone interview, “Like, they assumed I bought a guitar and then didn’t know how to play it. That’s how much of a chump they think I am.” The friends in question requested to remain anonymous, but sources close to the friend group reported that Maron gives off the vibe of a guy who makes guitar part of his personality but then only knows like two chords. “I play Wonderwall all the time!” Maron yelled at our staff after being asked if he in fact knows how to play guitar, “I’ve even written a few songs.” The songs in question were never elaborated upon or proved to even exist, but sources close to Maron noted that he sometimes posts himself playing guitar on Instagram, and that the videos are usually bad. Maron is scheduled to perform a tribute to AC/DC for his followers on Instagram Live at some point this week after he buys a light bulb for his bedroom.
