CHICAGO, IL — Derek Costa, 30, told friends that he especially enjoys voting on election day even though he has never shown an affinity for it in the past. “I like voting on the day,” Costa told four people who had already voted, “Even though this is the second election I’ve ever voted in, it’s a tradition for me.” Witnesses to the young man’s life say that he probably just couldn’t figure out how early voting works. “I think it was just too complicated for him,” Mary Costa, Derek’s mother, told Derek’s friends while he went to the bathroom, “He says things like ‘oh I love voting on the day’ and it’s like no, you just didn’t want to be bothered to figure out how to do it any other way. He literally collapses when anything in his life is hard. He cried one time because he had to take public transportation. I don’t know how he keeps a girlfriend. Oh, hey honey.” Costa returned to the room and pretended that he did not hear his mother speaking. He is expected to go to a polling center to vote on November 3rd whenever his girlfriend gets off work and picks him up.
