TECH — Smart phone manufacturers have been testing the vast possibilities of new technologies that allow phone and tablet displays to physically fold, shrink, and expand. “We’ve taken it one step further,” Ren Zhengfei, 76, CEO of Huawei, the world’s largest manufacturer of telecommunications equipment and second largest manufacturer of smartphones, told international news outlets, “Our new phone can fold into a little gun. We think it will be very popular in western countries.” The tech giant has a small presence in the United States, but company executives believe that the new ‘foldable smart phone gun’ will be a mega hit with at least half of the US population. When unfolded, the phone has a simple 5.8-inch display. Once folded, the phone becomes a 2.5-inch barrel length snub nose revolver and fires ‘phone bullets’ which have ten times the armor piercing capabilities of normal revolver ammunition. The bullets are equipped with smart technology which allows them to effectively lock onto targets. “The best tool against a mass shooter is everyone in the area having a phone that can turn into a little gun,” Zhengfei tweeted after speaking to press. The tweet was liked and retweeted over 22 million times by US Twitter users. Huawei has kept all images of the phone confidential, but a prototype of the phone has been approved for review. The company maintains that it will be ‘at least a couple weeks’ before the prototype is stolen and made available on the dark web.
