Quarantined Citizens Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day by Drinking A Little More Than They Already Drink Every Day for Past Year
UNITED STATES — St. Patrick’s Day is a major drinking holiday in the United States, and despite lingering COVID-19 restrictions, this year will be no exception. “I’m gonna get shit-faced,” Chris O’Donnell, 34, tweeted earlier this morning, “just like every other night since I lost my job last April. This time though, it’ll be for my Irish brothers.” The tweet received little praise, mainly due to its poor formatting, but the general premise of the tweet is one that has been trending on Twitter, showing that most people agree they will probably drink a little more on St. Patrick’s Day than they have been drinking every night for the past year. “It’s always St. Paddy’s Day around here,” Barbra Donnelly, 40, tweeted this morning, referring to her apartment where she has spent all of her time over the past year, “on account of the fact that I don’t have a job LOL. But I am definitely going to get a little wilder than I normally do…” Donnelly’s tweet performed poorly as well, again due to its amateur formatting and low engagement potential, but the message is clear that despite COVID-19 restrictions, Americans are going to spend today drinking a little more than they normally drink to continue their tradition of celebrating St. Patrick’s Day. Tweets are expected to get funnier and more difficult to read as the evening progresses, more than they already do every other night.
